Abstract
The effect of LSD on the hind limb flexor reflex was determined in spinal rats. Method The response of the hind limb to electrical stimulus (40-60 msec, 40-60 volts) was recorded in spinal Wistar rats (180-270 g) before and after the administration of LSD and other drugs. Results IBID 2-20 Mg/kg i.v. caused an immediate dose-related contraction of the semitendinous and tibialis anterior muscles, with contraction lasting 90 min with the higher dose. Contraction of the semitendinous muscle was unaffected by IT'D 5 Mg/kg after the tibialis nerve was severed and stimulation applied to the proximal segment. a-Methyltyrosine (a-MT) 250 mg/kg i.p. hr before LSD, did not affect its action but caused partial antagonism when given 4-16 hr before. Reserpine 5 mg/kg s.c. 24 hr before LSD had no effect but the same dose at 24 hr and a-MT 250 mg/kg s.c. 16 hr before abolished the effect of LSD 5 mcg/kg. Phenoxybenzamine 20 mg/kg i.v. 90 min before and haloperidol 2 mg/kg 60 min before each blocked LSD 5 mcg/kg. Clozapine1 mg/kg i.v. 30 min before blocked LSD 4/mcg/kg. Cyproheptadine 0.5 mg/kg i.p. 30 min before blocked 3 mcg/kg but did not affect d-amphetamine 0.5 mg/kg i.v.. Atropine 2.5-5 mg/kg i.v. 60 min before had no effect on LSD.
