Abstract
The influence of D-lyserglc acid diethylamide (LSD) on shock elicited fighting in rats was studied. 120 Male albino Sprague-Dawley rats (300-350 g) were housed 4 to a cage and pretested for initial levels of shock elicited aggression during 20 x I sec, 2mA shocks at 15 sec intervals. 2-3 Days later they were given imp. LSD at 20, 40, 80, 160 or 640 mcg/kg or deionized water. At 15 min. a series of 40 shocks were delivered; 10 at increasing intensities (1, 15, 2 and 25 mA). 72 Hr later, they were retested in reverse conditions. LSD had a nonmonotonic dose-response effect on shock elicited aggression. At 20-160 mcg/kg treated rats fought more than controls at each shock intensity whereas at 640 mcg/kg LSD no longer increased fighting.
