Abstract
The role of the serotoninergic system in nociception was studied. Cyproheptadine (0.01 and 1 mg/kg, s.c.) reduced the latency of the response time of mice in the hot-plate test and mimicked the effects of 5-Methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MD) (0.1 and 1.0 mg/kg, s.c.), quipazine (0.03 and 3 mg/kg, i.p.) and d-LSD (1-100 mg/kg, s.c.). The hyperalgesic effect of 5-MD was not inhibited by cinanserine (10 mg/kg, s.c.) or methergoline (0.3 and 1 mg/kg s.c.) The effect of 5-MD was also not influenced by morphine (10 and 30 mg/kg, s.c.). Increased doses of cyproheptadine (10 and 30 mg/kg, s.c.) and methergoline (1 mg/kg9 s.c.) prolonged the response time and produced by hypertony and ataxia. This was also the case with 5-MD (3 and 10 mg/kg, s.c.) and quipazine (30 mg/kg i.p.). Nalaxone competitively reduced the response time.
