Abstract
Gluthathione, a tripeptide, (gamma-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine) plays an important role in the oxidation-reduction system of the cell. Along with ascorbic acid it is said to be responsible for keeping the adrenaline and noradrenaline in their reduced state and to take an active role in the respiratory process of the tissues (Mapson and Moustafa, 1956). It also maintains several enzymes in their active sulfhydryl form. A number of enzymes in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism depend upon glutathione and other sulfhydryl compounds such as coenzyme A for their activity.
