Abstract
The problem of addiction to the hallucinogenc drugs is one of misuse rather than of physical addiction. By misuse I mean the taking of hallucinogenic drugs (whether prescribed by a doctor or not) without medical supervision during the period of activity of the drug, which may be up to twenty-four hours. For the purpose of this article "hallucinogenic drug", according to the poisons regulations (hallucinogenic drugs) 1967, made under the poisons act 1962 means one of the following: Dimethyltryptamine, Lysergic acid diethylamide, Mescaline, psilocybine and psilocin.
