Abstract
Data are presented for the concentrations of total iron, copper and zinc in rat brain. The average values were 227, 39, and 198 nmoles per g brain wet weight, respectively. The importance of exsanguination for brain iron studies is stressed. The content of iron and copper increased with the age of the animal, while the zinc content decreased slightly. Administration of lysergic acid diethylamide, termorine dihydrochloride, 2,2',2"-trypyridine, or 3-acetylpyridine to rats caused no changes in the amounts of the three metals in the brain.
