“Some Psychological Differences Between Fertile and Infertile Women”.
Journal of Clinical Psychology. 1963 October;19::391-5.
Abstract
The possibility of psychogenic infertility is suggested by the absence of a proven organic cause in more than 50 per cent of "sterile" couples studied. Although undiscovered pathology undoubtedly exists with many wives, the impression remains that infertility on a psychogenic basis is present in a substantial percentage of cases. A number of mechanisms have been suggested by which psychic factors may intervene to change physiological processes so that infertility results. This study sought to discover whether psychological factors contribute to involuntary childlessness. Further, an attempt was made to delineate the nature of the emotional disturbance found among infertility patients.
