Abstract
Body work on deep tissues and massages of varying depths and pressure are a valuable and mostly underappreciated technique. They are particularly valuable when personal difficulties are not amenable to verbal strategies or when psychological resistance occurs. This article draws on the psychotherapy practice of the author. It also focuses on the work of Wilhelm Reich and Ida Rolf to examine the ways in which the body "holds" psychological problems and can be helped to release them through physical manipulation.
