Abstract
Substances chemically related to dopamine 3-Hydroxytyramine have been known to possess pharmacological effects . Such is the case for Mescaline 1 and for 3,4-Dimethoxyphenylethylamine 2,3 . Mescaline has never been clearly identified in human body fluids, but in 1962, Friedhoff and Van Winkle isolated 3,4-Dimethoxyphenylethylamine DIMPEA in the urine of schizophrenic patients 4,5 . This finding has been configured by most authors since 1962 6,7 although there were some doubts about its specificity B . In 1963, Barbeau and collaborators 9 found large quantities of DIMPEA in the urine of Parkinsonian patients . Because there is strong
evidence for the participation of dopamine in the pathogenesis of Parkinson disease 10-16, it was decided to investigate the effect of DIMPEA injections upon catecholamine metabolism in vivo.
