Notes # : This paper was the first analytical account of a San Pedro using an accurate Latin binomial.
Claudine Friedberg, the French ethnobotanist who provided Poisson's analytical material after purchasing live cuttings in a Peruvian witches' market, gave this paper some promotion in the early 1960s when supporting her assertions that mescaline was what was responsible for San Pedro being used by Peruvian shamans.
